Ageing

We all want to age gracefully and in order to achieve this it is best to eat a varied diet and live a healthy lifestyle. This of course is a sweeping statement and for many of us something that is very difficult to do all of the time. We have therefore put together a list of vitamin and other supplements that we recommend to help maintain your youth with minimal effort!!

First on our list are antioxidants. Oxidation is the process that causes damage to cells within the body, organs and tissues. Think about the use of lemon juice to stop the cut surface of an apple from browning. The lemon juice acts as an antioxidant and stops the damage caused by the apple flesh being exposed to the air. Antioxidants are used in the body for numerous functions and either prevent damage happening or repair the effects of oxidation. Examples of this type of nutrient are vitamins A, C & E, minerals Zinc and Selenium and other supplements such as Acai, Co-enzyme Q10 and Green Tea.

Within the diet, brightly coloured fruits and vegetables like blueberries, cherries, carrots and tomatoes are full of antioxidants. However, if you cannot get enough of these through nutritional sources we thoroughly recommend you try some supplements from a reputable source such as Just Vitamins or Holland & Barrett.

The other supplement we strongly recommend to help keep your health in top condition is a simple Multi-Vitamin and mineral tablet. These are best taken with food to avoid any potential upset that may occur when taken on an empty stomach. As we get older our bodies require a lower quantitiy of calories and hence may need the diet to be supplemented with certain nutrients. Our bodies also become less efficient in making and storing supplies of vitamins and minerals which is another reason for choosing to take a daily supplement. As always we recommend you order your vitamins from a quality supplier and when looking for a multi vitamin we suggest you go for something like the Multi A - Zinc 50+ vitamin supplement from Just Vitamins.
