5-HTP is also known as 5-hydroxytryptophan and Oxitriptan, and is extracted from the seeds of the West African medicinal plant, Griffonia Simplicifolia. It is not found naturally in any food sources.

It has been suggested through clinical studies that this supplement increases serotonin levels within the central nervous system, which is very important for brain and nerve function, and has been known to reduce appetite and food cravings within individuals, whilst also lifting feelings of well being.

What is Serotonin?

Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter, this can be found within chocolate, bananas, dried dates, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, meat, fish, oats, sesame, chickpeas, and peanuts.

This chemical works within the body controlling emotions.
