What is Chromium?

Chromium is an essential trace element that needs to be taken in through the diet or by supplementation. It is thought that chromium has an effect on how insulin (a hormone) behaves in the body. Insulin is used by the body for the metabolism and storage of fat, carbohydrate and protein. 

Why take Chromium?

  • This supplement is often used by weight watchers in conjunction with a regular diet and exercise programme. This is because it may help increase lean body mass and promote lower body fat.
  • Controlled trials have shown that by using a supplement of Chromium total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels are lowered. As well as this, levels of HDL cholesterol are increased.
  • Chromium may help stabilise blood sugar levels and imrpove the action of insulin.

What are the side effects of ?

There are no known side effects of taking a regular dose of Chromium but it is advised to take no more than 300mcg per day without the advice of a Doctor.
